Iowa Natural Gas Rate Update
On December 31, 2020, Liberty filed with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) for a revision of rates for its customers. Interim rates went into effect beginning January 10, 2021. Interim rates were set at the same rate as the proposed rates. Interim rates are subject to refund (with interest) if the proposed rates are approved by the IUB at a lower rate.
Quick Facts
- Residential customers with an average monthly usage of 67 therms will see an approximate increase of $7.10 per month, a change of 11.45% percent.
- Liberty’s last Iowa natural gas base rate update was effective June 18, 2017.
- Proposed rates will go into effect in 2021 after the IUB has reviewed Liberty’s request and issued its order. Customers will be notified when this change takes place.

- Liberty has increased its capital investments by $2.6 million since our last base rate update in 2016.

Liberty is a regulated utility; our rates must be approved by state regulators. Rates reflect the cost to provide customer care, emergency and outage services, maintain and improve infrastructure and recover operating costs. Rates also reflect the cost and obligation of serving our customers safely and reliably.
